Course description

This interactive workshop is designed to empower patient care staff to provide customized patient and family education using health literacy principles and communication tools, which include the ‘Teach-Back’. The course utilizes didactic, group discussion and role play to enable participants to translate the knowledge and tools presented into effective real-world communications.

Restrictions

This class is restricted to UC Davis Health employees who belong to departments of the Phase I, II or III Rollout Groups (PDF).

Preparation

In preparation for the workshop, please complete this short reflection exercise (PDF).

Class attendance

Be courteous and on time. It is disruptive to other students and instructors and difficult for late students to catch up once the class starts. Students are expected to attend and participate in the entire course. You will not be allowed to attend the class if you are 5 minutes or later.

Attire

Please dress in hospital scrubs or clinical work attire as participants will work hands-on.

C.E. contact hours

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider number CEP 26, for 3.5 contact hours.

This is a UC Davis Medical Center approved course for continuing education credit. UC Davis Medical Center is designated by the Physical Therapy Board of California as a Continuing Competency Approval Agency.

Attendees will not receive C.E. credit if they are more than 5 minutes late; no partial credit can be awarded.
