UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center is now offering a leading-edge, outpatient, non-invasive prostate cancer procedure without a blade, an incision, a scar or radiation. It is called high-intensity focused ultrasound or (HIFU). Its use avoids the risks and the side effects that come with a radical prostatectomy while reducing time away from work or activities.
UC Davis Health researchers have developed a new compound that could offer alternatives for patients with treatment-resistant tumors. The molecule, called LX-1, simultaneously targets androgen receptor variants and the enzyme AKR1C3, which are both known to drive resistance. Their findings were presented at the American Urological Association’s annual meeting.
Chengfei Liu, M.D., Ph.D., was recently awarded a $1.4 million grant from the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program to study why some advanced prostate cancer is resistant to immunotherapy to develop new possible avenues for treatment.
