Our pediatric infectious disease team works closely with all other pediatric divisions and areas in the hospital to provide consultation and care for children with suspected or confirmed infectious diseases. We assist with evaluation, diagnosis, and management of children both in the inpatient setting as well as in our outpatient clinic.
Equally important, our physicians direct the pediatric Infection Prevention team to prevent and stop transmission of infectious diseases within the inpatient and outpatient settings. We also lead a robust Antimicrobial Stewardship team to ensure that antibiotics are used wisely to maximize clinical outcomes and minimize the development of antibiotic resistance.
We are involved in a variety of clinical studies focusing on improving the care of infectious diseases in children. These involve epidemiologic, quality improvement, and vaccine studies, as well as providing timely academic reviews of cutting-edge subjects.
Faculty interests include congenital infections, pediatric vaccines, COVID-19 infection, Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C), antimicrobial stewardship, and infection prevention.
We are committed to the education of medical students and pediatric residents in all areas of pediatric infectious diseases and also co-lead our pediatric residency media and child health education program. Our faculty routinely provide educational lectures to physician and nursing groups and serve as sources of information to the media.
The pediatric infectious disease faculty diagnose and manage a full spectrum of pediatric infections ranging from common conditions to rarely seen and exotic infections. We have access to state-of-the-art diagnostic tests and therapies, and work closely with our colleagues in pharmacy, microbiology, laboratory medicine, infection prevention, radiology, public health, and pediatric surgical specialists to provide evidence-based and comprehensive care.
