Chair's statement

Welcome to the UC Davis Department of Radiology.  Our patient-care facilities, offices, and laboratories are located on the 140 acre campus of the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, Calif. The department is responsible for the technical and professional components of clinical imaging at the UC Davis Medical Center and Medical Group, the health system's primary-care locations that extend throughout the Sacramento metropolitan area.  It fully supports the imaging-related needs of the UC Davis Health System, one of the largest acute care, critical care, community care and tertiary referral academic medical centers in the country. It performs over 350,000 studies per year. The department’s subspecialty expertise is allocated among fellowship trained faculty members and state-of-the-art imaging equipment in Sections of General Diagnostic Radiology, GI and GU Radiology, Emergency Radiology, MR Imaging, Ultrasound Imaging, Body CT Imaging, Musculoskeletal Radiology, Neuroradiology, Interventional Neuroradiology, Interventional Radiology, Pulmonary Radiology, Breast Imaging, and Nuclear Medicine.

In addition to its clinical responsibilities, the department’s missions focus on education, imaging-related research, and achieving the professional goals of our students, faculty and staff.  Departmental educational programs are predominately directed towards the training of residents, medical students, and fellows.  As a department we are also focused on the continued educational achievement of our faculty and staff, as well as on the presentation of regional and national courses in postgraduate medical education.  Our Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program is one of the most sought after in the nation.  Our graduates have unlimited options relative to their selection of fellowship programs, academic appointments or clinical practice locations.  Fellowship training programs are available in MR imaging, nuclear medicine, interventional radiology, abdominal imaging and neuroradiology.

The department’s faculty, residents, medical students and fellows participate in an extensive number of clinical and basic science related research projects involving MR, ultrasound, PET, CT, mammography and plain film imaging.  Contemporary research facilities in the Imaging Research Center, the medical center, the School of Veterinary Medicine and in the primate research center support outstanding imaging-related investigative opportunities, both within the Department and in collaboration with clinical and basic science colleagues.
