About us

The UC Davis Medical Center’s Comprehensive Epilepsy Program is nationally recognized for medical and surgical management of complex epileptic disorders. As an academic medical center, we offer cutting-edge technology and comprehensive epilepsy care that spans the entire lifetime of a patient. Our multidisciplinary epilepsy team consists of epileptologists — neurologists with specific training in diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy — as well as neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists and neuropsychologists. Our patient-centered approach to care is tailored to each patient’s needs, wants and situation.

Our certification as a level 4 comprehensive epilepsy program means that patients in the Sacramento Valley and beyond can take advantage of the convenience and ease of travel to Sacramento for expert evaluation.

Physicians and patients alike are often surprised by the breadth of surgical options for treating epilepsy. Much of the leading-edge research by our faculty members leads to new technologies that help physicians and patients around the globe in managing seizure disorders. With demonstrable records of success in epilepsy surgery, our epileptologists and neurosurgeons not only help patients but also are vital in teaching techniques to the next generation of epilepsy specialists.

UC Davis Comprehensive Epilepsy Program is a level 4 facility

NAEC certification

The UC Davis Comprehensive Epilepsy Program has earned National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) accreditation as a level 4 comprehensive epilepsy center, the highest designation available. That certification validates the expertise of our multidisciplinary team of specialists in treating the most complex forms of epilepsy.

NAEC advises patients to request referral to a level 4 center if their seizures remain uncontrolled after more than three months of treatment by a primary care physician or pediatrician. In its published guidelines, NAEC advises that delayed or denied referral may be detrimental to the patient’s health, safety and quality of life. The UC Davis Comprehensive Epilepsy Program is dedicated to improving the lives of people who have epilepsy by reducing the frequency and severity of seizures, or eliminating them entirely.
