The AAMC Careers in Medicine (CIM) program offers a comprehensive web-based program that students can use to explore specialty areas, select a medical specialty, and apply to residency programs. The program will guide students through the career planning process using the four phases of career planning, which are self-awareness, exploring medical careers, selecting a specialty, and preparing for residency.

The four-phase career planning process are shown below:

We highly recommend that students begin their career assessment through the CIM program during the pre-clerkship phase of the curriculum. Students will need log-in information to access these resources, which they will receive at the beginning of the academic year. After exploring these resources, students can bring the assessments to the Career Advisor or their Coach to discuss the best ways to use the information generated.
