Associate Professor

Lynda Creighton-Wong is an associate clinical professor at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis. She teaches the psychosocial wellness and illness course related in the Master’s Entry Program in Nursing. She is also co-director and teaches in the UC Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) postgraduate certificate program offered at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. As an educator, Creighton-Wong engages with students through process and reflection. She is interested in bringing real-life experiences to coursework and developing innovative experiential courses to build skills and inform attitudes. She is a proponent of the “flipped classroom” model for nursing education. 

As a board-certified PMHNP and a psychiatric mental health clinical nurse specialist (CNS), Creighton-Wong is committed to improving access to evidence-based, compassionate and equitable mental health care while also preparing future nurses to do the same. Creighton-Wong brings years of experience as a clinician and educator to UC Davis. In practice since 1999, she has been dual certified as a psychiatric clinical nurse specialist (C.N.S.) and PMHNP. She has previous experience providing mental health care as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner in community mental health and an adolescent residential program.

Before coming to UC Davis, Creighton-Wong was on faculty at UCSF School of Nursing, serving as the faculty of record for the psychiatric mental health nursing course offered in their Master's Entry Program in Nursing. She also taught Effective Communication in Nursing and  Issues in Nursing courses and has supervised students in clinical settings. Creighton-Wong has taught both didactic and clinical courses at many Bay Area nursing schools throughout her time as an educator, acting as a mentor to numerous students, leading instruction and developing curriculum. Before her work in academia, she worked in acute psychiatric facilities, providing psychiatric nursing support for patients with severe mental illness and substance use disorders.

Creighton-Wong earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rhode Island College. She earned her Master of Science at University of Rhode Island, where she also completed certification towards her CNS and PMHNP. She is pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Samuel Merritt University, focusing on understanding the relationship between self-care and burnout in behavior health nurses in acute care settings. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and the international honor society of nurses, Sigma Theta Tau International.
