Rebecca Howe, M.D.
Specialty: Caregiver engagement in advance care planning
Becca Howe is a Heather M. Young Postdoctoral Fellow. She receives mentorship through both the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis and the UC Davis Health Department of Family and Community Medicine. Her research focuses on caregiver engagement in advance care planning (ACP). She is currently conducting a mixed methods study of readiness, barriers and facilitators of ACP engagement among Black older adults with serious illness and their caregivers. She also recently completed a study of the association of social isolation with telehealth use among older adults during COVID-19.
Prior to her role as a Heather M. Young Postdoctoral Fellow, Howe was a Quality, Safety, and Comparative Effectiveness Research Training in Primary Care (QSCERT-PC) Fellow at UC Davis. She is in her second year of the Mentored Clinical Research Training Program (MCRTP), working towards a master’s degree in Clinical Research. Howe completed medical school training at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine and family medicine residency at UC Davis.
In addition to her research, Howe practices outpatient and inpatient family medicine and regularly provides home visits and nursing home care. She teaches medical students in a clinical skills course and precepts family medicine residents.
