THE CLINICAL TRAINING ENVIRONMENT

Facilities and Rotations

The majority of clinical rotations will be on the UC Davis Health campus in Sacramento, which includes the allergy and immunology clinics as well as the ear, nose and throat (ENT), dermatology and pulmonary clinics. The remainder of the training curriculum is dedicated to the pursuit of scholarly academic activity, including training programs in professionalism and research design.

CURRICULUM & RESEARCH

Preparing Future Allergist-Immunologists

The Allergy and Immunology Fellowship is a two-year program divided into rotations dedicated to clinical and research training. There is an option for funding application to a mentored research program in the third year in order to initiate independent investigator status though a Masters of Advanced Study (MAS) in Clinical Research.

  • An Expert Faculty Team

    Our Allergy and Immunology team offers evaluations and management of various allergic disorders, and family education/training to further aid in the development of patient treatment plans. Food and Drug challenge clinics are conducted weekly to help delineate the establishment of tolerance to these exposures.

    Our immunology service sees patients and offers treatment recommendations for patients with a history of recurrent, severe, or unusual infections, recurrent fevers, low immunoglobulins, and for immune dysregulation syndromes.

    Besides our nationally ranked hospital, and academic and research programs, Sacramento and its surrounding region have so much to offer, including restaurants that pride themselves on farm-to-fork cuisine to a variety of outdoor recreation spots to family-friendly events.

    Just a couple hours outside Sacramento, you can find a variety of activities and places to visit. Located in the heart of Northern California, Sacramento is situated between the Pacific Ocean and its beautiful beaches to the west, and the picturesque Sierra Nevada foothills and mountain range to the east.

Rewarding Clinical Experiences

As an allergy and immunology fellow at UC Davis, you will be involved in a variety of inclusive and educational experiences and are part of a program that reaches a population base of about 5 million people. Being part of such a large health system network is very rewarding and includes diverse clinical inpatient and outpatient experiences between:

  • UC Davis Health Main Campus, Main Hospital and Glassrock Building
  • Sacramento VA Medical Center, Mather
  • UC Davis Health Medical Group, Roseville
  • Kaiser Permanente, Rancho Cordova

Program Highlights

  • Open to applicants who have completed a residency in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Med/Peds
  • Faculty trained in both adult and pediatric care
  • Partnerships with the VA hospital and Kaiser provide a variety of learning environments for patient care
  • Weekly education sessions for dedicated learning with allergy, immunology and subspecialty faculty
  • Research training, support, and other resources at the Clinical and Translational Science Center

Mission

Our mission is to train allergists and immunologists who will be competent and compassionate clinicians with excellent diagnostic skills and knowledge to serve their local community including the underserved.

Program Aims

  1. Create an educational environment that stimulates intellectual growth
  2. Provide an outstanding academic and social environment during fellowship training
  3. Provide the trainee with an appropriate background to establish a successful career in clinical allergy and immunology.
  4. Provide flexibility of rotation structure which allows trainees to pursue skills related to their career goals
  5. Expose the trainee to training in basic science and biomedical research, enabling them to understand the mechanisms of the origin of the allergic and immunologic diseases.
