The trainee is expected to participate in the academic endeavors including the conception and development of at least one research project culminating in an abstract for presentation at a national or international pediatric interventional conference as well as publication of the research project. In addition, the trainee will assist with research endeavors of the mentors.

The Hybrid Pediatric Fellowship is novel. Due to the nature of the material covered it is important for the trainee to have experience with the procedures as well as many of the programmatic resources needed to safely perform these procedures. As such, the fellow will be expected to understand the institutional resources needed to support such a program.

The fellow will participate in all hybrid procedures. During this experience the fellow is expected to become familiar with open exposure of the carotid artery, femoral artery, radial artery, and techniques to cannulate the artery for sheath placement and when necessary for ECMO cannula placement. The sessions will also include pediatric dosing, emergency procedures, cardiac cath lab, the hybrid OR and the children’s surgery center cardiac OR.

A daily review of potential cases requiring cardiac catheterization and intervention.

Twice a week session, under the supervision of Drs. Ing, Holzer, and Alnoor to see patients who are being referred for cardiac catheterization.

Weekly conference to review upcoming cases for discussion.

Monthly conference which reviews selected patient cath lab cases for purpose of quality assurance and education.

Monthly review of cath lab data for IMPACT Registry

Weekly fellow lectures that cover various CHD topics (including relevant lectures in adult cardiac fellows lecture series and PICU fellows lecture series)

The trainee will also participate with the pediatric cardiology faculty in producing various educational material designed for medical students, residents, fellows of other disciplines, nursing, and other health care staff as well as for general pediatricians and hospitalists under the supervision of the pediatric cardiology faculty depending on the topic.
